Shattered DreamsPosted: May 29, 2011
I would be remiss if I did not HIGHLY recommend this new book I am reading! It called, Shattered Dreams by Larry Crabb. If you have ever had a situation in your life cause you to say, “Why God?” Then you might want read this book!
I have had two smaller dreams and two large (pour your heart out, sacrifice everything, ‘believed whole-heartedly in’) dreams shatter!! I dropped a Pyrex casserole dish on to my tile kitchen floor on time. That thing SHATTERED… in to like a million pieces! That’s the kind of shatter I’m talking about! The two large dreams shattered have been really hard to get over! You start to loose hope. You begin to get kind of numb and apathetic. If you try something, and fail (or what seems to you like failing) once, you kinda brush yourself off and get up again. The second and third time, it gets harder and harder to get back up! Also the higher the sacrifice, the more you believed in that dream, the harder the fall!
As Larry Crabb points out in the book, the dream can be a happy marriage, successful business, kids who love the Lord, good health, having children, growing old with your spouse and the list goes on. The dream is personal to the person. But when it is shattered the pain is real!
Here are a couple quotes:
“God is not waiting to bless us after our troubles end. He is blessing us right now, in and through those troubles.”
“Shattered dreams open the door to better dreams, dreams that we do not properly value until the dreams that we improperly value are destroyed.”
“…pain will always have a purpose- the better hope of knowing God well enough now to love Him above everything else… and trusting Him no matter what happens.”
“God will never allow suffering to come into our lives that is not necessary to achieve His good purpose.”
“Only an experience of deep pain develops our capacity for recognizing and enjoying true life.” (SO true!)
“When good dreams shatter, better ones are there to newly value and pursue.”
